Locks of Love: Victorian Hairwork and Memory (Laramie, WY)

  • Alice Hardie Stevens Center 603 East Ivinson Avenue Laramie, WY, 82070 United States (map)

Join us for our June Tea, where hairwork artist and researcher Zen Hansen will give a unique lecture on her craft and its history. During the Victorian era, women transformed the shed hair of loved ones into intricate wreaths, jewelry, and keepsakes, preserving memories in tangible form.

With historic hair wreaths from the Laramie Plains Museum on display, Zen Hansen will guide guests through the history and techniques behind these remarkable objects. Why was hair treasured? How were these delicate floral compositions constructed? What did they represent to the women who patiently braided and arranged them?
